Target group

Scientists at all levels who are interested in applying NGS for studying any aspects of eDNA, metabarcoding and metagenomics.

Topic

Metagenomics is the study of genetic material obtained directly from environmental samples, for example, microbial communities extracted from water, soil, plants, gut, etc.

Variations of metagenomics, e.g targeted approaches using metabarcoding employs amplicon sequencing for studies of biodiversity within taxonomic and functional groups.

eDNA is a branch of metagenomics focused on sequencing of environmental samples for different monitoring purposes; usually focusing on single genes.

The National Genomics Infrastructure Sweden (NGI) is hosted by Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). NGI is supported by SciLifeLab, the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet, VR) and host universities (KI, KTH, SU, UU).
